Our current research focuses on water-soluble, carbon-based nanoparticles (carbon quantum dots) for sensing heavy metal ions in water samples. Our goals include modifying the nanoparticle surface to investigate interesting chemistry and incorporate sensing capabilities. We have previously investigated monolayer-protected metallic nanoparticles and colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals (quantum dots).
